George Stulac, senior pastor

George Stulac became a Christian in 1965 while he was a student at Washington University. The next Sunday he walked into Memorial Presbyterian Church. After graduation, he went to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts just for the fun of learning more about the Bible and theology. There he met Barbara Bareford, a graduate of Columbia University School of Nursing in New York. They were married in 1969. George later earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis. He is the author of a commentary on James in the InterVarsity Press New Testament Commentary Series. After five years in campus ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and five years as a pastor in Wichita, George returned to Memorial Church in 1981 as Senior Pastor.

Barbara has been a full-time partner in ministry. She currently helps in the church’s ministry to international students and she works hard preparing and leading Bible studies for three church groups.

George has been active in interdenominational prayer movements and is now President of Mission Metro St. Louis. He was co-chairman of the Prayer Committee for the St. Louis Billy Graham Crusade in 1999. For years he was Program Director and Bible expositor for InterVarsity Family Camps in Colorado. Twice he has been a visiting professor of New Testament at the Donetsk Theological College in Ukraine, and he now makes annual mission trips to Bulgaria as Pastoral Associate with Mission to the World.

For recreation, George loves hiking (especially in mountains, when he can get to them), reading (varied, but among his favorites are mystery novels by Dorothy Sayers or Rex Stout), baseball (as a lifetime Cardinals fan) and playing cards (bridge, hearts, poker…). He is a runner (four miles three times a week). And he finds huge pleasure in playing with his grandchildren.

Barbara and George live in University City and have four grown children. Their son Bob works as a tutor in Minneapolis and takes yearly mission trips with his church. Their daughter Sara is a pediatrician full-time in a rural hospital in Rwanda. Their son David (married to Monica, with three children) is a businessman and leads the local mercy ministries for his church in Fenton, MO. Their youngest son Dan (married to Sarah) was on staff with Navigators for campus ministry at Dartmouth College and is now living and working along side his sister in Rwanda.

Greg Johnson, associate pastor

Age: 34
Height: 5′8′ … in shoes
Weight: 130
Myers-Briggs: ENTJ
Tattoos: 1
Piercings: 2
Blood Type: Red

Greg Johnson is Theologian-in-Residence at the Center for Christian Study (St. Louis) and Associate Pastor at Memorial Presbyterian Church. He holds degrees from theUniversity of Virginia and Covenant Theological Seminary, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1997, receiving the school’s Theology Award that year. He has a PhD in Historical Theology at St. Louis University, with concentrations in Early Church and American Christianity.

His favorite color is still orange. Pumpkin, burnt orange, rust, even with stripes.

Greg is the author of The World According to God: A Biblical View of Culture, Work, Science, Sex & Everything Else (InterVarsity Press, 2002), which is about everything. At 208 pages, that’s concise.

Greg grew up in Washington, DC, and became a Christian through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1990. In the late 1990s, he really came to appreciate the textural richness, warmth and patina of wood products. He hates plastic. Fine for hospital supplies, but not for the home. He still goes crazy over a nice Corbusier LC2 Petit Confort club chair. He’s committed to the social, spiritual and cultural renewal of the City of Saint Louis. When he can, he walks through Forest Park or around his Central West End neighborhood. When he has to drive, he drives a Mini Cooper. Greg is 34, though he’d like to be younger.

Corrin Schlecht, director of church community

Corrin grew up a Yankee in rural Wisconsin and married a southern boy from Alabama. Clif and Corrin have only been married a two years, but have spent hundreds of hours restoring their historic city home in the Skinker/DeBaliviere neighborhood. When they aren’t swinging hammers Clif is mixing chemicals at Wash. U. in an attempt to earn himself a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. Corrin has already completed her masters from Covenant Seminary. She is one of those unique women who actually opted for the M.Div. degree. Most of her daily activities center on meeting people for coffee and planning events (two of the things ENFP’s love the best).

If you have questions about Memorial and want to get more connected than Corrin is the one you should seek out. And if you’re getting married you just might want to ask her to do your floral arranging, it’s her favorite hobby. Neither Corrin nor Clif have written any books - sorry - but maybe one day.

To keep up to date on their lives you can visit Corrin’s blog at www.corrinsloveseat.blogspot.com.

As church administrator Stan assists the session in overseeing the budget, the custodial staff and works with the ministry team leaders meet their needs. He has also served the last 5 years as the chairman of the MTW committee for the Missouri Presbytery.

Ricky Webb, custodian

Ricky serves our congregational community as a deacon and custodian. He grew up in St. Louis and came to faith in Jesus as a child and was baptized in the Lutheran Church when he was 11. Growing up in his church community he had the opportunity to learn to play the piano, guitar, drums, violin, and flute, and to sing as a choir boy, in addition to attending summer youth camp where in his first judo tournament he took second place. This led to a lifelong love of the martial arts and physical fitness.

Ricky was also a Boy Scout, he loves being outdoors and enjoys hiking, backpacking, bike riding, canoeing, swimming, ice skating, sledding, ice blocking and his all time favorite…winter camping. That’s right folks when the weather reports say its going to snow and be very cold you may see a smile on his face and a gleam in his eyes because he loves it. This is a trait that serves him well. As a cable television technician he has been up on telephone poles for an hour or longer in wind chills as low as 40 degrees below zero, just to make repairs.

Ricky has degrees in CATV electronics and engineering from the National Cable Television Institute in Denver, Colorado and has built, operated and maintained cable television systems in the St. Louis area. He uses his technical background to oversee the church’s sound, air conditioning and other technology systems.

Ricky is fully involved in the ministry of Memorial Presbyterian Church. His purpose is to serve the Lord with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength, and to grow up spiritually to be like Jesus Christ.
